Description

A Pacing Horse
About 1595-1600
Workshop of Giovanni Bologna, known as Giambologna (1529-1608)

This classical composition was inspired by the antique bronze of the Emperor Marcus Aurelius in the Piazza del Campidoglio, Rome. Among the most successful of the small bronzes produced in Giambologna's workshop, it is a reduction of the life-size horse that he designed in 1594 for the monument to Cosimo I de'Medici in the Piazza della Signoria, Florence.

Italy, Florence.
Bronze
