English: A FARM COMPLEX THAT WAS BUILT BEGINNING ABOUT 1777 FOR THE NIXSON FAMILY. THE LARGE BRICK HOUSE WAS BUILT BETWEEN 1825 AND 1850 BY GEORGE NIXSON'S SON OR GRANDSON GEORGE. THE HOUSE BECAME KNOWN AS "DR. NIXSON'S FOLLY." THOMAS CLAGETT, A PHYSICIANOWNED WOODBURN DURING THE CIVIL WAR AND AVOIDED SHERIDAN’S BURNING RAID BY HAVING SLAVES WARN SHERIDAN THAT MOSBY WAS WAITING NEARBY TO AMBUSH HIM. IN MODERN TIMES IT HAS BEEN OWNED BY RUDOLPH NUREYEV, THE BALLET SUPERSTAR. |
