Object history
Deutsch: Wellen und Badewanne im blauen Schildfuß symbolisieren das schon im 16. Jahrhundert belegte Heilbad und reden für den seit 1948 geführten Namenszusatz Bad. Bad Kohlgrub gilt als das höchstgelegene Kurbad in Deutschland. Der halbe Adler vorne ist die geminderte Form des an den Stifter Kaiser Ludwig den Bayern (1332) erinnernden Doppeladlers im neueren Wappen der Benediktinerabtei Ettal und verweist auf die historische Zugehörigkeit der Hofmad Kohlgrub zum Klostergericht Ettal. Die bewurzelte siebenblättrige Buche entspricht dem seit dem Spätmittelalter geführten Wappen des Chorherrenstifts Rottenbuch. Die Klöster Ettal und Rottenbuch waren bis zur Säkularisation 1803 als Grundherrschaften mit dem Gemeindegebiet eng verbunden.
