Deutsch: „Es zeigt im geteilten Schild oben in schwarz einen wachsenden, rotbewehrten, rotgekrönten, goldenen Löwen, welcher die Zugehörigkeit einiger Teile des Kreisgebietes zur ehemals bayerischen Kurpfalz symbolisiert. Der untere Teil des Kreiswappens zeigt das blau-goldene verkleinerte Sponheim'sche Schach, welches die Zugehörigkeit eines Teiles des Kreisgebietes zur früheren vorderen Grafschaft Sponheim aufzeigen soll.“
