Macedonian war elephants are seen in battle against a Dacian and Sarmatian army. Macedonia is a region to the north of Greece, famous as the home of Alexander the Great. The Dacians lived in what is now Rumania, while the Sarmatians came from what is now eastern Poland and western Russia.
