Summary
[edit]Description |
Warren Carther's architectural glass art: Euphony, Anchorage International Airport, Alaska Located in the Anchorage International Airport, in Anchorage, AK, EUPHONY was completed in 2004. It consists of nine sculptural glass towers 27 feet high. Carther worked with Mike Carlson of McCool Carlson Green Architects, Anchorage and again with engineer Scott Heuvel who was able to do the calculations and address the seismic requirements. Inspired by Alaska’s enormous landmass and the magnitude of its mountains, icebergs and glaciers, Carther designed abstract forms that are rugged, fluid, and reflect their inspiration. His clear intention was to evoke the sense of awe that one feels in the presence of colossal vistas of ice, snow and rock. The ambiguous images within the sculpture address Alaska's greatest dichotomy: continual balancing of the forces of technology with the vast powers of the natural world. |
