Born in Tennessee, James Thomas Huff (1868-1924) moved to Seattle in 1894, finding work at the Seattle Laundry. In 1904, he established his own laundry business, Washington Laundry, at 1165 Eastlake Avenue on Lake Union. In this image Mr. Huff stands next to his Winston [sic: presumably Winton] automobile in front of Washington Laundry. The laundry delivery wagons and drivers are lined up behind him along Eastlake Avenue. This image was taken facing southwest, and Lake Union is visible behind the laundry building.

Additional notes: The pictured building, designed by Place & McCauley and built by David Dow, was completed in 1910, the same year the photo was taken. The building, heavily altered over the years, was demolished in 2019 for the Eleven 65 Building.
