He is depicted wearing a black, double-breasted coat over a white shirt with a high, standing collar, and a black cravat. He is also wearing black trousers. He is shown with gray hair and brown eyes. He is seated in a Renaissance Revival armchair with red upholstery. His right arm rests on the chair, while his left arm rests on a book sitting on a table. His legs are crossed. A column is featured on the left side. The background is taupe. The artist's signature is located in the lower right corner and reads, "Robert Hinckley 1894."
