DescriptionWinnie Davis 1880s skiff named Barbashela designed by Captain T. P. Leather, Restored by Lewis Small Boat Restoration 2016, Homeport Biloxi, MS.jpg
This is Varina Ann "Winnie" Davis' skiff, which she rowed at Beauvoir in the 1880s. It was designed by Captain Thomas P. Leathers of the steamboat Natchez and he oversaw the construction. The skiff is named Barbashela and it was a gift to Ms. Winnie. Barbashela was used in the Mississippi Sound and on Oyster Bayou, and WPA reports indicate she was stored on the porch of the Library Pavilion. The skiff was damaged during Hurricane Katrina, then restored in 2016 by the Lewis family Small Boat Restoration in Florida. Barbashela returned to Beauvoir in November 2016 and is on display. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Varina_Anne_Davis Skiff provenance and restoration log can be found at http://smallboatrestoration.blogspot.com/p/blog-page_16.html.
