Purpose of use in article (WP:NFCC#8)	To serve as the identifying biographical photo of a person who is still alive yet quite old. It technically cannot be used under the regular "fair use" template only because he is not yet deceased.
Not replaceable with free media because (WP:NFCC#1)	To properly depict the subject of the article who accomplished what he accomplished as described in the article during the time he accomplished those feats, a very old photograph would have to be used. Old photographs of gymnasts from this era, especially ones of such high quality as this photograph, are exceedingly rare, if they exist at all.
Minimal use (WP:NFCC#3)	This photograph will be used, initially, only in the subject's biographical article.
Respect for commercial opportunities (WP:NFCC#2)	Very little interest exists in the sport of gymnastics especially from this long ago (pre-1970s, even moreso, pre-1950s).
