This picture is very difficult to read -- in particular the city names; I guess it's just to give a rough idea of the ethnic boundaries ? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 209.167.202.14 (talkcontribs) 20:33, 12 October 2004

If you click on the image you can see the full-size version. The city names are easier to read then. —Angr 09:17, 14 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Italian speaking parts

[edit]

The Italian speaking part of the Austrian-Hungarian empire is shown wrong in this map.

Italian government claimed the terretory during WWI with the pretence to be an Italian language area.

In fact this part called "Südtirol" (South Tyrol, Italian: Alto Adige) had 97% German speaking population in 1911 (it always was part of Tyrol and never belonged to Italy before). Despite heavy sanctions of the Italian government between WWI and WWII (e.g. ban of the German language) there is still a population of 60-70% speaking German (admitting to be Austrian). —Preceding unsigned comment added by 194.166.239.185 (talkcontribs) 01:51, 2 April 2006

The map is right. The area around Trento (today the Province of Trento) was predominantly Italian-speaking then as now, while the area around Bozen (today the Province of Bolzano-Bozen) was predominantly German-speaking then as now. —Angr 09:15, 14 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
