Back in 1954 I started working for The Commerce Trust Bank in the parking garage/drive thru bank. I worked there until late 1959. I believe this was the first drive thru bank in K.C. I also believe it to be the first and maybe the only garage attop a large Katz drugstore. The drive thru bank was on the first (actualy the second), floor of the parking garage annex, and it had three windows, and a walk in area also. During banking hours the entire first floor of the garage was for drive thru type transactions only. The second floor was unique also,in that all other bank customers would drive up to the second floor,an attendant would park their car,and the customer would cross into the bank lobby via a second story enclosed crosswalk that connected the two buildings,(abt. 30'). The remainder of the 4 story building (at that time), was devoted to public attendant parking. The garage featured gasoline pumps on the second floor, and the best hand car wash in town. Mr. Tom Morrow was the garage manager. A strict man with great morals. I learned a lot from him. I live in the Chicago area now, but will never forget the fifties at Commerce Trust, nor the great people I worked with there. I would love to see some pictures of the garage building. Thank you for letting me comment on this great and advanced building. jerrykelley39@gmail.com
