File talk:Old Conoco Station - Commerce.jpg
Hi, The photo of the "Old Conoco Service Station" does not say much about that locations actual history as any such photo/location should.
In the 1950's My Father had a Radio repair shop in that bldg. All the Service Station components that are in the photo were never there when I lived in Commerce. The large brick bldg it is attached to,was a Hardware store in those days. Just to the south another bldg was also a Radio Repair Shop when My father expanded his operation. I spent many times there and watched Him (My Dad) do the repairs on many old Radios. Of course,it was just an old red brick bldg (unpainted then)and was pretty much a derelict when I Moved away.
It appears that the purpose of restoring it,calling it a Service Station was a good idea, it is right on the corner where US hwy 66 turned right on the main thoroughfare of Commerce, going east a mile or so,turning north and leaving town.It is of course impossible to miss if you are following the old, true route of "66"and would have been a busy place "back in the day."
