Watteau's Pierrot
the composition which centers completely around the subject, almost like cheap television talk shows center the layman on their prop stage, begs you to look at his expression and posture. His posture, causually uncomfortable; he's got a stiff neck and his shoulders hang with helplessness.I look at his face and then i notice the mule at his feet -- looking straight at me; then i go back to look at "pierrots" eyes and expression. they reveal to me a smirk or a gleam of consciousness. He is aware he is the "fool" but he does'nt mind. Put him in a clowns outfit, he can take it. But i wonder if "pierrot" is looking at somebody in the audience?
