Frédéric Sinistra (13 January 1980 – 15 December 2021)[1] was a Belgian kickboxing champion who died from COVID-19.[2]
Born in Seraing, at a young age he began teaching himself kickboxing; competing in the sport at sixteen years old. He went on to advance to the Belgian National Championship, winning the title four times; further winning the World Championship a total of three times. Sinistra "won several world and European heavyweight kickboxing titles throughout his 39-9 career", including the Belgian national title 2004. Sinistra was nicknamed "the Undertaker", and at one time called "Belgium's strongest man".[2] Opponents that Sinistra defeated included Stefan Leko and Dževad Poturak, while he was defeated by Badr Hari[3] and Grégory Tony.
An anti-vaccine advocate, Sinistra became infected with COVID-19 in late November 2021, and was admitted to hospital, voluntarily discharging himself soon after. He died weeks later in Havelange from complications of the virus. Sinistra drew media attention following his death due to his public opposition against vaccination.[4][2]
