Ivory keyboard of G. Schwechten Piano series No. 6171, made before 1870.

G. Schwechten was a Berlin-based manufacturer of fine pianos.

History

Production began in 1854 and continued up through 1925.

These pianos are rather rare now. It is said that there are no finer pianos than those built by Schwechten.[according to whom?] They are fine examples of the high quality of work in 19th-century German and Austrian workshops.

Today, the brand name "Schwechten" is used by Shanghai Piano Co. Ltd. (est. 1895). It is not clear, when and how the Chinese bought the brand.[1]
