Gromph Baenre is a fictional drow character in the Forgotten Realms campaign setting.

Fictional character biography

Gromph is the Archmage of the city of Menzoberranzan, the City of Spiders. He is also the Master of Sorcere, the arcane school, and the first son of Matron Baenre, and as such he is the most powerful male drow in Menzoberranzan. Gromph is a rival in power to the other archmages of the Forgotten Realms, such as Elminster and Khelben.

Reception

Gideon Kibblewhite, in a review of the novel Daughter of the Drow for Arcane magazine calls Gromph the "only interesting character" in the book, describing him as "the bitter and twisted archmage", and lamenting that "he rarely makes an appearance after the opening".[1]
