The Guayaquil Group (Grupo de Guayaquil) was one of the most recognized literary groups in Ecuador in 1930-1940. Its members included the writers Enrique Gil Gilbert, Demetrio Aguilera Malta, Alfredo Pareja Diezcanseco, Joaquín Gallegos Lara, and José de la Cuadra. They wrote novels about the Ecuadorian mestizo.
