The Haenel MK 556 is a 5.56×45mm assault rifle designed by Haenel in Germany. On 14 September 2020, it was selected by the Bundeswehr as a replacement for its heavier and less accurate G36 assault rifle.[2][3]

Germany: The MK 556 was selected by the Bundeswehr on 14 September 2020 to replace the G36 as its service rifle. 120.000 MK 556 had been ordered by the Federal Ministry of Defence.
