Harness, Dickey & Pierce (abbreviated most commonly as Harness Dickey, or less frequently as HDP), is an intellectual property law firm headquartered in Troy, Michigan, which files an average of 1500 original patent applications annually.[1] Today, the firm qualifies as Michigan's largest intellectual property law firm.[2] Around one third of Harness Dickey's 120 attorneys[3] hold advanced technical degrees beyond law, ranging from biological and engineering backgrounds.[4]

History

The firm was founded by Jake Harness in the Detroit area in 1921, where its establishment served to grow with the auto industry.[5] In 1925, Art Dickey and Hodgson Pierce joined the firm as partners.[citation needed]

Rankings

In 2014, Intellectual Property Today ranked HDP in sixth place in its survey for Top Patent Firms, based on the number of US patents issued in the firm's name in the previous year.[6] Additionally, Law360 ranked Harness Dickey as the United States' 27th largest IP law firm in 2009, based upon its total number of attorneys.[7]
