Harris Khalique (Urdu: حارث خلیق) (born 20 October 1966) is a poet in Urdu and English, essayist, columnist, and civil society leader, based in Pakistan. He has eight collections of verse and a book of creative non-fiction behind him. He also won the ‘UBL Literary Excellence Award 2013’ in the category of Urdu poetry for his collection of verse Melay Mein (Urdu). He received the President's Award for Pride of Performance as an acknowledgement of his services topoetry on 23 March 2018.[1]

Early life

Harris Khalique was born in Karachi, Pakistan, on 20 October 1966 to a writer-filmmaker father, Khalique Ibrahim Khalique, and a writer-teacher mother, Hamra Khalique.[citation needed]

Harris attended Public School Karachi Cantt., D.J. Sindh Government Science College.[citation needed] Later, pursued mechanical engineering from N.E.D. University of Engineering and Technology in Karachi. He did MA from London School of Economics and Political Science, London, UK.[citation needed]

Career

Harris is currently the Team leader of ‘AAWAZ – Voice and Accountability Programme’, a project of Development Alternatives Incorporated (DAI), a private development company,[2] focusing on the rights of women and excluded groups in Pakistan.

Literary career

In 2004, he published collection of English poetry, Between You and Your Love, which was revised in 2014. In 2013, he won the ‘UBL Literary Excellence Award 2013’ in the category of Urdu poetry for his collection of verse Melay Mein (Urdu).

In 2015, he participated in the International Writing Program's Fall Residency at the University of Iowa in Iowa City, IA.[3]
