Heinrich Vollmer was one of the most well-known weapon technical designers of Europe.

The chief designer Heinrich Vollmer of the Erma of works in Erfurt uses the basic construction of the Schmeisser MP36 and develops from it the well-known German submachine guns of the Second World War, which become MP38 and the MP40. of these weapons 1.2 million pieces manufactured, and them become known internationally as "Schmeisser MP".

Developer of the MP38, as the technical literature often wrongly informs, was not Hugo Schmeisser but engineer Heinrich Vollmer active for the Erfurter company. That is also because the stangenmagazin of the MP38 and/or MP40 comes from Schmeisser and is also so characterized.
