Hemipenthes is a large genus of flies belonging to the family Bombyliidae (bee-flies). There are many described species, distributed throughout the Holarctic and Palearctic Ecozones. These are small to large robust flies with a body length of 5–14 mm. They can be distinguished from similar genera (Villa) by their wing venation.[1]
Larvae are hyperparasites on parasitic Hymenoptera.[1]
