History-sheeter
Appearance
History-sheeter is an Indian police term for a criminal with a long record of serious crime. The Oxford English Dictionary defines it as an Indian English term for "a person with a criminal record."[1] The term is a formation specific to India.[2]
Police stations in India maintain history sheets (similar to US rap sheets) in three categories. A repeat offender progresses from category 'C' to 'B' to 'A'; a "Category A" history-sheeter is considered to be a hardened criminal, whose criminal inclination is close to incurable.
Notable category A history-sheeters include criminal politicians such as D. P. Yadav, Amarmani Tripathi, Pappu Yadav, etc.
