The book then chronicles the lives of four of the passengers, Murad, Halima, Aziz and Faten, exploring their lives before the trip and what motivated their attempt at immigration. Then we see the four characters after the trip and how their lives are changed, for better or worse. This is a simple novel about all of the hardships of teenagers, families, and young adults.
