"I Want to Spill the Blood of a Hippy" (stylised as "i want to spill the blood of a Hippy") is the first single by the Australian comedy band The Doug Anthony Allstars. The single was released in 1990.

History

The song was written in 1989. Its first recorded performance was on the ABC show The Big Gig. It had different lyrics to the version ending up on their 1990 debut album DAAS Icon. The song had an acoustic arrangement and was in a different key (the song was in G7 compared to the album's A7). The song recorded for Icon in 1989 had different lyrics and an extended intro with a male voice sighing followed by a guitar playing an Am chord with intermittent notes being played. That version also had a two-minute extended solo at the end featuring a horn section and samples of news reports about the 1989 San Francisco earthquake, a then-recent event.

The chorus's chord progression is A7-C-Dsus4-A7.

Music video

A video was filmed for the song in 1990, featuring a shot of a fat man cooking pasta and giving it to the Allstars, who are wearing pyjamas. The Allstars say grace, then when Tim starts to sing, the Allstars are transported to a dark room with DAAS-style illustrations, wearing black suits. They then sing the song.
