Identitäre Bewegung Österreich

The Identitäre Bewegung Österreichs (Identitarian movement Austria - IBÖ) is an Austrian new-right organisation. Inspired by the French Generation Identitaire, it belongs to the pan-European Identitarian movement. Spokesman of the IBÖ is Alexander Markovics.

Ideology

Philosophically, the IBÖ promotes ideas coming from the New Right thinkers (e.g. Aleksandr Dugin, Dominique Venner or Alain de Benoist) and the German Conservative Revolutionary movement (Konservative Revolution) like Oswald Spengler or Carl Schmitt. The IBÖ says it stands against liberalism, internationalism, multiculturalism, and Islam. The IBÖ criticices the immigration politics of the Social Democratic Party and the Green Party. Instead of the EU, they propagate for a so-called "alliance of independent countries".

Activism

• In February 2013 activists of the IBÖ occupied the Votive Church in Vienna that already was occupied by Islamic asylum seekers. The "occupation of the occupation" brought the IBÖ a lot of attention from the Austrian media.
• In November 2013 members of the IBÖ demonstrated in front of the head office of the EU Agency for Fundamental Rights at Schwarzenbergplatz in Vienna to protest against its director Morten Kjærum who in a speech had stated that "Austria has to accept that it is a immigration country." The protesters shouted slogans against immigration.
• On 19 February 2014 activists of the IBÖ disturbed a speech of Kjærum in Vienna.
• On 17 May 2014 a rally took place in Vienna. An anti-racist counter demonstration clashed with the new-right-wingers leading to 37 protesters being arrested.
