Infocap, Training of the Populace Institute, described as "the university of the worker," is an institution created by the Society of Jesus and inspired by the thought of Fr. Alberto Hurtado, S.J. Its mission is to train and educate workers.

History

The statement of Jesuit Alberto Hurtado "workers are entitled to a place of honor in society" defines the philosophy of Infocap.[1] Infocap was born in the early eighties when Chile had high unemployment and few training opportunities. This led the Society of Jesus to create a training institution for technical workers. In 1990 the institution moved to its current headquarters located at Av. Departmental 440, San Joaquin. In 2008 the headquarters Infocap Conception arose.[2] The current rector is Arturo Vigneaux, S.J. Earlier rectors were Jesuit Frs. Luis Roblero and Felipe Berrios. Infocap shares facilities with the offices of A Roof for Chile.

To understand the conditions of workers, Infocap has a Studies Center to investigate and reflect on their situation.[3] It also has a business center to facilitate entrepreneurship among students and graduates. [4] The Syndicate School of Infocap educates union leaders on the employer-worker relationship.[5] University professors and students volunteer their services, translating their knowledge into practice in the process of training workers.[6]
