An innovator or pioneer (Template:PronEng) in a general sense is a person or an organisation who is one of the first to do something and often opens up a new area for others and achieves an innovation.
Innovators in history
Pioneers innovate in a particular field, i.e. "Mr. Smith is a pioneer in the teaching profession...", first recorded in 1780s.[1]
People that are often called innovators include:
- Wright Brothers - pioneered controlled flight
- Thomas Edison
