Playing career
Born in Hurlford, Picken started his career with Bolton Wanderers before moving to Plymouth Argyle in 1903.[1] He spent a hugely successful two years with the club, scoring 46 goals in all competitions from just 90 appearances, including two hat-tricks in three games in October 1904 against New Brompton and Tottenham Hotspur.[2] His form in front of goal didn't go unnoticed, and he joined Manchester United prior to the 1905–06 season. He led United to two league titles and an FA Cup victory during his time with the club, scoring 46 goals in all competitions. He saw out his career with two year spells with Burnley and Bristol City.
Later life
