Jacques Marcovitch
Jacques Marcovitch (born 1947) is a Brazilian Senior Professor of Strategy and International Affairs at the International Relations Institute and the Business Administration, Economy and Accountancy Faculty at the University of São Paulo (USP) in Brazil.[1] He is a former Reitor (Rector or Dean) of the University.[2] His research is concentrated in five areas. Business strategy on innovation, energy, forest and an environment, university governance, business pioneering and economic history of Brazil and international affairs.
Early life and education
Marcovitch received his bachelor degree in 1968; that same year he held office as the president of the Academic Center Visconde de Cairu. He graduated with a degree in business management at the Owen Graduate School of Management, Vanderbilt University and a PhD on Strategy for Innovation at the University of São Paulo in the 1973.
Career
Marcovitch served as the president for the São Paulo State Energy Companies in 1986-87. He was Rector of the University of São Paulo from 1997 to 2001.[3] He also served as director of the Institute for Advanced Studies[4] developing projects about reforestation and intersectorial cooperation on carbon emission mitigation programmes. He was a Senior Adviser at the World Economic Forum.[5]
Marcovitch is also Member of the Foundation Board in the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies (IHEID) in Geneve, Switzerland[6]
He is author and editor of several books, including Economic Growth and Income Distribution in Brazil: Priorities for Change in 2007; this book was awarded The 2008 Brazil's Jabuti Prize for Best Book in Economics and Business.[3] He also wrote GHG Emissions Reduction and Management in the Amazon in 2011.
Awards
Marcovitch was presented with an honorary doctorate at Université Lumiere, Lyon. He was awarded the titles of Chevalier de la Legion d´Honneur, France, Officier de l'Ordre des Palmes Académiques, France, and the Medal of Scientific Merit, Brazil.
