John Weaver "Jay" Jordan II is an American businessman and investor, the chairman and founder of the Jordan Company (TJC), a private equity firm.
Early life
Jordan was born and raised in Kansas City, Missouri.[2]
Jordan earned a bachelor's degree in Business Administration from the University of Notre Dame in 1969, and an MBA from the Graduate School of Business at Columbia University.[1][2]
Career
Jordan spent the first nine years of his career working for the merchant bank Carl Marks & Co., Inc.[3]
Jordan founded TJC in 1982.[3] He invests in manufacturing companies, and follows a broadly similar strategy to that of Warren Buffett.[4]
He is a director of Gulfstream Services, Worldwide Clinical Trials, Young Innovations, Lyric Opera and the Art Institute of Chicago.[3] He is a trustee of the University of Notre Dame.[3]
Philanthropy
Jordan gave $75 million to his alma mater, Notre Dame, their largest single gift.[4]
Personal life
He lives in Deerfield, Illinois,[4] and Amagansett, Long Island, New York.[5]
Jordan was married to Patricia Johnson, daughter of Mr and Mrs Horace L. Johnson Jr. of Overland Park, Kansas, and they divorced before 1992.[5][6] In 1992, Patricia Johnson Jordan, 43, married Dr. Vincent John Vigorita, son of Pauline S. Vigorita of East Hampton, New York, and the late Dr. John L. Vigorita.[6]
In August 2008, his son John Weaver Jordan III, 29, married Megan Elizabeth Wise, 23.[7]
In September 2009, his daughter Jennifer Lynn Jordan, 28, married film producer James Joseph Gorman, the son of Jeanne Gorman and John J. Gorman of Chicago.[5]
In September 2016, his daughter Colby Jordan, 23, married art collector Alberto "Tico" Mugrabi, 46, son of Jose Mugrabi, at the Hôtel du Cap-Eden-Roc in Antibes, France.[4][8][9]
He also has two stepsons, Vinny and Tommy Vigorita.[5]
