Jiří Schelinger (6 March 1951 – 13 April 1981) was a Czech rock singer. He was born in a little village Bousov to music teacher (father) and florist (mother).[1] He had a younger brother Milan Schelinger, who was also musician.[2] His first band was called Nothing But Nothing and in later years he played in various other groups. His first full-length solo album Báječní muži was released in 1976. In 1981, he jumped from a bridge in Bratislava.[3] He was inducted in to Beatová síň slávy in 2004.

Conspiration about death

His death wasn't quite solved. There are speculations, that this could be a premeditated murder concocted by State Security, Schelinger's attempt to emigrate, live in seclusion and suicide.[4] There are also speculations, that former State Security tried to solve the case quickly and the body of Jiří Schelinger was not his. This theory is supported by singer's brother Milan, who recently got the autopsy report, where singer's body was described different. The identity of the body was never confirmed by any family member or Schelinger's acquaintance. The conclusion that it is the body of the singer, was made based on his dental card.

His brother Milan Schelinger recently says, that his body was found at the shores of the river Danube in Hungary, where he was burried as unknown man.

On the sixtieth anniversary of his birth (and the thirtieth anniversary of his death) in March 2011 at his home in Prague, where he lived in his early childhood (Čestmírova 18, Praha 4 Nusle #266) was revealed his bust with memorial plaque.
