John Hughes (born 1880 in Flint, Wales) was a Welsh footballer who played as a defender for Liverpool F.C. in The Football League. Hughes was born in Wales, but his family moved to Liverpool so that he would be recognised as a local player. He was recommended to liverpool by fellow Welshamn Maurice Parry and after a successful trial he signed for the club in 1903. He was a regular in the Liverpool tam during the 1903–04 season and only missed 3 of the 34 league matches that season. Hughes left liverpool in 1904 and would later play for Plymouth Argyle F.C.[1]
