John McGrath (born 28 July, 1994) is an Irish sportsperson. He plays hurling with his local club Loughmore-Castleiney and with the Tipperary senior inter-county team since 2015. He is the younger brother of fellow Tipperary hurler Noel McGrath.
Career
McGrath played Minor Hurling for Tipperary from 2010 to 2012, winning an All Ireland in 2012. McGrath was named in the Tipperary squad for the 2015 National Hurling League and made his league debut on 22 February against Galway starting at corner forward and scoring two points in a 2-18 to 0-20 win in Semple Stadium.[1][2] McGrath played his first senior hurling match for loughmore at the age of 14 lining out at centre forward where he was met with a baptism of fire marking the great Gary Russell his Tipperary team mate where he struggled to gain a foothold in the game. Following this match McGrath went on to become one of the all time greats while Russell went on to become couch-bound. McGrath can now be seen plying his trade in the annual college court road puck competing against prestigious competitors. One of the turning points of Johns career is moving in with the established stopper Kevin Bulfin here he learned the tricks of the trade such as printing fake tickets. In 2009 McGrath was voted times person of the year most depressed person.
