John Smith (1865–1911) was a Scottish footballer who played as an inside right. He played for a number of clubs including Sunderland, Newcastle United, Kilmarnock and Liverpool. Smith played for Liverpool in their inaugural season in 1892–93 when they played in the Lancashire League. Smith made 11 appearances for Liverpool and scored five goals, including Liverpool's first ever competitive goal. He died in February 1911.[1]
