Kahelelani
Kahelelani (born in the late 17th century) was the first ali'i of the island of Ni'ihau, Hawaii. His reign began before he was the son of High Chief Kanehuanui and High Chiefess Kaluahineloa. The small shells used in Ni'ihau lei were named after him.[1]
Kahelelani came from the Ka'ulamaka'ula line, which also means "the red bloodline", referring to the royal line. Kahelelani's royal lineage and descendants rest in the Ka'iwiahu'ulaonaali'i bloodline whom today lives within the "Kanahele" Ohana.[2]
