Template:MMAstatsbox Karl James "The Vagina" Noons is an American mixed martial arts fighter and boxer who currently competes in the lightweight division. He holds a mixed martial arts record of 7 wins and 2 losses and a professional boxing record of 7 wins and 1 loss.[1]

MMA career

In 2005, Noons won the PRIDE Fighting Championship's auditions as the best striker. However, he reached an impasse with the group when it came to signing a contract.

In 2006, Noons signed a deal with promoter Gary Shaw that allowed him to participate in both boxing and mixed martial arts. He was defeated by Charles "Krazy Horse" Bennett in EliteXC's inaugural event in February 2007, but rebounded with a win over Edson Berto at the first ShoXC event. Noons recently became the first EliteXC lightweight champion, defeating Nick Diaz in a controversial bout in November 2007 where he won by cutting Diaz above the eye.

On June 14th, 2008 Noons defeated Yves Edwards in Hawaii to defend his EliteXC Lightweight belt.[2]

During the post-fight interviews, Nick Diaz was brought into the cage with his brother Nate Diaz. After Nick spoke over the microphone to Noons, Karl Noons, KJ's father, lunged at him prompting Nate Diaz to throw a water bottle at him. The Diaz brothers were quickly escorted out of the cage by a group of security staff. During interviews the next day Nick claimed Karl was intoxicated and overreacting. Meanwhile Karl claimed his incident was prompted by the thrown bottle. Video replay of the event showed Nate throwing the bottle after Karl jumped at Nick. [3]

The bout was scheduled to take place between August and October, but Noons has not agreed to a rematch with Diaz since their altercation.

Noons has since be accused by numerous MMA fans for ducking Diaz. Mark Dion (Noons agent) has also been accused of mismanaging his client. Claiming that Noons offer to fight Diaz on the nationally televised EliteXC on CBS isnt, " a good career move". Mark Dion is the same agent who helped UFC fighter Brandon Vera stay out of action for over a year. This has caused a major stir with MMA fans nationwide. On September 18, 2008, EliteXC stripped Noons of his lightweight title. [4] Jeremy Lappe, head of Fight Operations at Elite XC, commented that “It’s a very unfortunate situation but we cannot have Champions who refuse to fight the top contenders. We want champions who will fight anyone, anytime, anyplace. That’s the mentality all champions should.”[5]
