The BLACK SAINT from Palermo was the one who gave the name to the barrio PA in BsAs (arg), NOT Rosalia!! It seems no one remembers his name; neither do i (and i should as i know far too well both palermos). i heard Leoluca Orlando said sthing about this BLACK saint recently ... does anyone remember his name??? desperate but i guess i haveto ask the outsiders, in PA no one seems ... sorry. Zisa

I have never heard of a black saint in Palermo, but why not. I added a note about Rosalia to make that part clear, but it is distinct from hte BsAs part. My wife (from PA) says there is a black madonna in PA, and that a male saint was venerated on Monte Pellegrino before Rosalia took over. Seindal, Tuesday, April 2, 2002

he lived in the 1600s and was a son of a black slave; that's all i remember. i think i have to find and disturb the ex amyor for that... i should know it as well as i was from PA (BSAS, AR) and then lived in PA... so ... well ... i came back yesterday and no one seemed to remember his name (nor in prov di TP not in PA) Zisa

This black saint is probably San Benedetto il Moro. See [1] (in italian). He lived 1526-89, as a son of descendants of black christian slaves brought over from africa. In 1713 he is declared patron of PA by the city, in 1743 venerable by the pope and saint in 1807. Seindal, Tuesday, April 2, 2002
