According to the Ottoman tradition, Kaya Alp was the son of Suleiman Shah who in turn was the grandfather of Osman I the founder of the empire.[1] Kaya Alp literally means "Brave Rock" in Turkic languages. He belonged to the Kayi tribe of Oguz confederation. Few is known about him in regard to his birth and death dates.[2]
