Kevin Korchinski (born June 21, 2004) is a Canadian ice hockey defenceman for the Rockford IceHogs of the American Hockey League (AHL) as a prospect to the Chicago Blackhawks of the National Hockey League (NHL). He was drafted seventh overall by the Blackhawks in the 2022 NHL Entry Draft.[1][2]
Playing career
[edit]On August 11, 2022, Korchinski signed a three-year, entry-level contract with the Chicago Blackhawks.[3]
For his play with the Seattle Thunderbirds in the 2022–23 WHL season, Korchinski named to the Canadian Hockey League (CHL)'s Third All-Star Team.[4] The Thunderbirds entered the 2023 WHL playoffs as contenders, ultimately winning the Ed Chynoweth Cup as league's champions.[5] Their league title qualified the team for the 2023 Memorial Cup, where they reached the event final, but were defeated by the Quebec Remparts.[6]
Korchinski made the Blackhawks opening day roster for the 2023–24 NHL season, and made his official NHL debut on October 10, 2023.[7] He scored his first NHL goal against the Tampa Bay Lightning on November 9.[8]

On December 12, 2022, Korchinski was named to Canada national junior team to compete in the 2023 IIHF World Junior Championship. During the tournament he recorded one goal and three assists in seven games and won a gold medal.[9]
