Konnapu Bandara

Konnapu Bandara was Vimaladharmasuriya I of Kandy. He was the son of Weerasundara Bandara, who was killed by Rajasinha I of Sitawaka. In case of threats from Rajasinha I of Sitawaka, Konnapu Bandara along with his sister Dona Catherina of Kandy, and his nephew Yamasinghe Bandara fled to the Portuguese seeking thei protection. They lived there, grew up and learnt war skills there. Later a Portuguese army was sent under Konnapu Bandara and they conquered Kandyan Kingdom easily and made Yamasinghe Bandara the KIng of Kandy. He died after a few months and Konnapu Bandara was appointed to the King. Then he gave leadership and betrayed Portuguese and rebelled against them and made Kandyan Kingdom Sinhalese. Konnapu Bandara ascended to the throne of Kandy as Vimaladharmasuriya I of Kandy.
