Kriti Sanon(born circa 1989-1991)is a model turned actress.She made her debut alongside newcomer Tiger Shroff in the movie Heropanti,which released on May 23,2014.
Early life and background
Sanon was born to Rahul Sanon, a Chartered Accountant and Geeta Sanon, an Associate Professor at Delhi University.[1] She has one sibling, Nupur. Sanon did her schooling from Delhi Public School, R K Puram and completed Bachelor of Technology in Electronics and Communication, from Jaypee Institute of Information Technology, Noida.[1]
Acting career
Sanon made her acting debut in 2014, with Sukumar's Telugu film 1: Nenokkadine, a psychological thriller, in which she played the role of Sameera opposite Mahesh Babu.[2] Despite the initial hype, the film generated mixed reviews from critics[3] and was a commercial failure.[4] For her performance however, Sanon garnered mainly positive reviews, with a Times Of India critic saying, "Kriti Sanon looks pretty and acts well enough to justify her role".[5] A reviewer at Sify.com praised her for her beauty but was a bit more neutral of her overall performance, "Kriti Sanon looks gorgeous. For a newcomer, her performance is okay".[6] Kriti Sanon was also caught in the controversy about the regressive nature of the film poster which shows her crawling behind the actor. Mahesh Kumar Katti, a film activist, stated that "you don't need to be a gender studies expert to figure out what that poster suggests. That mainstream Telugu cinema promotes medieval male tendencies is a known fact. But this poster marks a new low. Disrespect to women keeps manifesting in different ways on screen, be it the style of romance, the item numbers, the corny one-liners... the list goes on."[7]
Later that year, Sanon made her Hindi film debut with Sabbir Khan's action-romance film Heropanti, opposite newcomer Tiger Shroff. Despite only receiving mixed to negative reviews from most prominent critics,[8] the film became a commercial success at the Indian box office.[9] Film critic Taran Adarsh of Bollywood Hungama appreciated her performance and said she "looks gorgeous and handles her part with certainty and confidence."[10] Kriti did receive some criticism from other critics. Srijana Das of Times of India commented that "playing Dimpy, who dreams of being 'Miss Haryana', Kriti has statuesque beauty but set expressions, the lead pair's emoting more cheesy than sharp."[11] Famed critic Rajeev Masand said that "newcomer Kriti Sanon looks lovely and makes an impression despite her harebrained role."[12]
