L. Timothy Ryan, Ed.D., C.M.C., A.A.C.

L. Timothy Ryan, Ed.D., C.M.C., A.A.C., is the current president of The Culinary Institute of America (CIA). A 1977 graduate of the CIA, Ryan joined the school's faculty in 1982, and later moved to administration before heading the college's education division. He was the first alum to become president of the college in 2001, the college's fifth president. Prior to returning to the CIA as a faculty member, he spent five years as a chef in different aspects of the culinary industry. Ryan has received numerous accolades throughout his career from the American Culinary Federation and various other organizations.[1]

Education

Dr. Ryan's education started at the CIA with his Associate degree in occupational studies.[2] He attained a Bachelor of Science and Master of Business Administration from the University of New Haven. His Doctorate degree was earned from The University of Pennsylvania.

Accolades

His accolades include becoming a Certified Master Chef at the age of 26, the youngest in the American Culinary Federation's history. Additionally he was the youngest president of the ACF at the age of 36. In 1998 Ryan was named "Chef of the Year" by the ACF and has been one of five Americans to receive a "Presidential medallion" from the World Association of Chefs Societies. In 2007 Chef Ryan was named "Entrepreneur of the Year" by the International Association of Culinary Professionals.[3]

Professional career

On April 23, 2008, the faculty of the Culinary Institute of America voted no confidence in his presidency, by a vote of 85 to 9. [4] The board subsequently confirmed unanimously their confidence in him, and extended his contract. [4]
