LaRoyce Hawkins is an American actor, stand-up comic, spoken word[1] artist, and musician. He is currently cast as Officer Kevin Atwater in NBC's Chicago P.D. and has a minor recurring role on the crossover show Chicago Fire.[2]

Early life

Hawkins grew up in the Chicago suburbs, graduating from Thornton Township High School in 2006. He played basketball and was a state champion on the speech team. He studied acting at Illinois State University.[2][3]

Career

He began his career in college, doing standup comedy and open mic nights. He auditioned for and landed a part as a supporting role in The Express, so he took a year and a half off of school to film.[4] He has been featured in several stage plays at various theaters around Chicago and made an appearance in Tyler Perry's House of Payne.[1]

Personal life

Hawkins has a brother who began attending Illinois State University in 2014, and who is also planning on majoring in acting.[4]
