Family and Personal Life

Loves his girlfriend Taylor Sarrob! Leland's mother is La Fonda Sue Darnall (née Honeycutt). His father is Duane "Dog" Chapman, better known as Dog the Bounty Hunter. Leland was 8 months old when Dog went to prison. While his father was incarcerated, Leland's parents divorced and he didn't see his father again until he was 8 years old when Dog gained visitation rights to see him and his brother, Duane Lee. It took a very long time for the boys to trust Dog and to bond with Duane Lee and Leland. Leland thought his step-father was his real dad.

Leland lived in Pampa, Texas in his early years but during his teen years moved to Colorado Springs. When Leland was a teenager he was in a gang in Denver, Colorado. However, Dog would regularly check to make sure that Leland went to school, this negatively affected Leland's "street cred", as no one wanted to "hang out" with him. Leland works in the family's bail bonds business with his older brother, Duane Lee Chapman. Leland graduated high school in 1994. Leland is the only one out of all of his brothers and sisters to have graduated high school. Leland was arrested at age 17 for mugging a tourist. When Leland was 17 years old he started his training in boxing and mixed martial arts. Leland has won many competitions with the help of local boxer and friend, Sonny.

Until 2003, he divided his time between his bail bonds business and competing in boxing. Leland has been the recipient of several awards, according to the official Dog the Bounty Hunter web site. In 2003, Leland gave up competing in boxing, kickboxing and Extreme Boxing after injuring his left knee. Even after surgery, he was told he could never fight again or he risked the loss of mobility in his leg. During the filming of Dog The Bounty Hunter pilot, Leland can be seen wearing a knee brace after he had spent 4 months off his feet. Since 2003, he has spent his spare time supporting local competitions, coaching mixed martial arts, and running a local gym.

Leland took part in a charity boxing match as featured on the A&E web site and in a new episode of Dog The Bounty Hunter. He was trained by Jesus Salud.

In March 2007, he said to Stone Magazine, "I work a lot and being a single parent takes up all of my time."

Leland works for his father Duane "Dog" Chapman. Their offices are in Denver, Colorado and across the Hawaiian Islands. He works alongside his older brother, Duane Lee Chapman II

Leland has recently embarked on a new business venture with two of his brothers, Duane Lee and Wesley Chapman. Together they have formed Chapbros Media and have launched an iPhone, iPod touch and website talent contest application called Show Off. [3]

As of March 12, 2010, they no longer sell clothing, stating that personal reasons (family, work) have kept them from devoting the necessary time to manage that aspect of their business. They were on Facebook, but have since closed their accounts for the same reasons listed above (not enough time).

Arrest

On September 14, 2006, Leland Chapman, Duane "Dog" Chapman, and Tim Chapman were arrested in Hawaii on charges concerning their involvement in the arrest of fugitive Andrew Luster whom is the great-grandson of cosmetics giant Max Factor, Sr. and a heir to the Max Factor cosmetics fortune. He grew up in Malibu, California and attended Windward School in Santa Monica. Luster had raped several women in the late 90's and fled to Mexico before his trial was ever held. He was pursued and captured after several months by Dog and his crew.

On September 15, 2006, Leland Chapman and Tim Chapman were released on $100,000 bail, while Duane was released on a $300,000 bail. All three bounty hunters were ordered to house arrest, had to wear an electronic tracking device and were ordered to give up their passports. At the end of their sentence, the tracking devices were removed and they were given permission to change their bail requirements so they could continue to run their bail bonds business.

On February 16, 2007, the Second District Court in Guadalajara ruled that Duane, Leland and Tim should face trial on one count of "deprivation of liberty" in violation of the country's anti-bounty hunting statutes.

Mexico reviewed Dog's case to see if they did have grounds to extradite him on a misdemeanor. There were multiple legal defense funds set up for Duane, Leland and Tim, including one set up by Tanja "Doe," a victim of Andrew Luster.

On August 1, 2007, all charges against the three bounty hunters were dropped. That October, the Chapmans were told that they would not be extradited to Mexico by American authorities.
