Abunasunga or Abouna Sounga, also known as Lensidede or Lessé Dédé, is a Wayana village on an island in the Lawa River.[2] As the Lawa River forms the border between Suriname and French Guiana, its territorial status is ambiguous. Abunasunga is usually listed as a French village however, together with the French Aluku villages.[3]
History
Abunasunga was founded by Wayana chief Kanailu, who left the village of Kawemhakan after a conflict with granman Anapaikë about the influence of the Baptist mission on Wayana life in Kawemhakan. Abunasunga is unique among Wayana villages in that it lies in the territory inhabited by Aluku.[4]
