Lise Mayer (born November 29, 1959)[citation needed] is an American-born British television and film writer.
Background
Mayer was born in Chicago,[citation needed] Illinois, United States, and is best known as a creator and co-writer of the BBC comedy series The Young Ones, alongside the late Rik Mayall (her then partner) and Ben Elton.[1] She met them both when they were studying drama at Manchester University, where her father, David Mayer, was their tutor.[2] Her mother, Anne, is prominent within theatre PR.[3][4]
She has written for such shows as The Last Resort, Paramount City, London Underground, The Fast Show, Saturday Zoo and Casualty, and produced Denis Leary's No Cure For Cancer. She was a writer/ consultant for the film The Borrowers, and co-writer of Suite 16, A Paper Marriage, and "The Matchmaker".
Books include Bachelor Boys, The Young Ones Book, People I Have Shot (with ITN cameraman Sebastian Rich), The Utterly Merry Comic Relief Christmas Book, Go to Bed (with Jonathan Ross), Amassed Hysteria and In Search of Happiness (with Angus Deayton).
She has a son Isaac with comedian and presenter Angus Deayton; the couple were in a relationship from 1991–2015.[5] Her sister Cassie Mayer is a talent agent who represents many comedians. Another sister, Catherine Mayer, was Editor at Large at Time magazine until April 2015, when she left to co-found the Women's Equality Party with Sophie Walker and Sandi Toksvig.[6]
