The inaugural Liverpool City Region mayoral election will be held on 4 May 2017 to elect the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority, (subsequent elections will be held May 2020 and then every four years after that).

- Tony Caldeira, businessman, and candidate for Mayor of Liverpool in 2012 and 2016[1]

- Steve Rotheram, MP for Liverpool Walton since 2010, Parliamentary Private Secretary to the Leader of the Opposition since 2015, and former Lord Mayor of Liverpool.[2]
