A loveseat is a couch or sofa in an S shape designed for seating two persons, and it typically has two cushion seats.[1][2] A proper loveseat has the two parties facing parallel[clarification needed] to each other.

History

Loveseats have been in production since the early 1800s in the US. These early designs were not intended to aid courtship between two people, but rather to provide a seat that would accommodate the dresses worn by the ladies of the period.[3]
